Body of Writing Body of Writing adds an additional dimension to the traditional mind body spirit practice of yoga: story. In this workshop we begin with the premise that we write from the body, and that our bodies hold our stories. Using a combination of inspirational writing exercises and prompts, yoga postures, meditation, and visualization techniques designed to support participants, we deepen creativity and access the stories we carry. We use calming breathing techniques as we move deeper into our creative process and meet artistic challenges, ensuring that participants leave class feeling stimulated yet relaxed. In Body of Writing we explore our writing and our bodies, receiving the benefits of strengthening the connection between the two. All levels. Previous experience with creative writing or yoga is not necessary. Individual and group sessions available. |
Songwriting Songwriting is a wonderful way to express yourself or tell a story, even if you're not a musician. Songwriting is a powerful creative practice for individuals and an engaging group activity. For schools and classrooms, writing songs serves as a cross-curricular connector, and it will appeal to all students—while strengthening social emotional learning. Writing songs is a welcome addition to the study of English and Literature. Writing songs is an enriching experience that goes hand in hand with poetry. Songwriting is another way to study structure and form. Song structure is similar to the structure we find in literature and essay writing, as well as writing for television and film. All levels. Previous musical experience is not necessary. Individual and group sessions available. |
Relaxing Into Writing
A lighter, gentler version of Body of Writing, our focus in these sessions is on deep relaxation rather than yoga postures.
We begin Relaxing into Writing with a warmup consisting of gentle stretches and attention to breath, followed by15-20 minutes of deep relaxation. In this state of relaxation and body awareness, we learn how to sense blocks within the body through a technique called scanning. After the body scan, we transition from relaxing to writing, with the intention of transforming blocks into self-expression.
If you write, or want to write, learning to translate the tension, tightness, and holding in your body will support you.
When time allows, participants will be invited to share their writing, however sharing is not required.
All levels. Previous experience with creative writing is not necessary. Individual and group sessions available.
*Especially recommended for blocked writers.
